How long have you had your Freerunner?

Since 16-July-2008; I have had my Freerunner for 24 hours now.

Why did you want to get one?

I am interested in GPS technology, so my primary interest in the FR is to experiment with building a versatile GPS data collector. One of the other teams at AGI builds applications on Windows Mobile devices like the TDS Recon and TDS Nomad. These are expensive ruggedized PDA's.

I was not put off by the recent issue with GPS and the SD card, I figured it would either be solved by the time I switch on the GPS receiver in my FR or that I'd just use an external antenna or a bluetooth GPS anyway. I assumed I was buying a bag of parts when I ordered my Freerunner, that it won't do anything without my help and that some problems with its hardware would crop up.

I had a Dell Axim X50V and I did a bit of programming on it. (actually I still have it but it broke! It's not ruggedized!) I don't really like the Windows Mobile environment. I want to see what I can do with Linux.

When I travel, I go light so I have never taken a laptop on a long trip. The Dell PDA was handy for checking email and web sites on the road via WiFi. Hopefully the Freerunner will be able to do that for me soon. I have not decided if I will even use it as a phone yet.

I'd also like to play with the accelerometers in the Freerunner. They seem interesting.

In my day job I do a fair bit of python programming and I intend to try python on the FR.
