Hello, my name is Andrew Bruce Lau

I work with microcontrollers (PIC18F), and write firmware (C code). I also do some php/mysql. Most of my work is done in Windows XP environment. As such, I don't have as much experience (or patience) with open source.

I ordered myself a Freerunner plus debug board on July 4, 2008. I am really attracted to the idea that I can have complete control over both the hardware and software of the phone. Another part of the appeal is I want to learn more about open source, and working with the open source community.

However, when I finally received the phone I didn't expect that the phone's software is nowhere near stable enough to even make or receive phone calls. Since I don't have much experience with open source, it took me a whole day just to set up the phone to go online and get updates. It still didn't make or receive calls after updating. I am a bit disappointed... but still holds out hope that it will work one day.

I am currently on Roger's plan. If there is anybody else in Vancouver, Canada who got their FreeRunner to actually function as a phone, I'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to email me andrew at laulau dot net or call me 778-999-8837. I also hope to learn more about how I can contribute to this project.

Cheers!
