Kernel snapshot name: uImage-2.6.22.5-moko11+svnr3874-r13-neo1973.bin

uBoot Snapshot name: u-boot-gta01bv4-1.3.1%2bgit0ec595243dc99edcd248bbcfbfd5a1dc860bde89%2bsvn3817-r1.bin

Device type: Neo1973 GTA01Bv4

Boot

  • Speed - 2m 17.966s - Up 39.903 seconds from yesterday. :(
    • JW comment - i think i saw a comment from Werner that this slower boot than previous is due to intro of Glamo in u-boot and serial way it clears screen. Werner had idea for 2 x workaround both of which will recover lots.
  • Error Messages - None
  • Failures - None

Phone Functionality

Incoming Calls

  1. Can receive - Yes
  2. Kinetic alert (vibrate) - yes
  3. Auditory alert (sound) - Yes
  4. Call quality - Poor. By default, calls pick up a lot of ambient noise and drown out the caller's voice. Here is a fix
  5. Missed calls display on OM-today2 - Yes. TWICE, in fact. Bug 1210 reported
  6. Calls recorded in call log - Yes. Twice, in fact. Bug 1210 reported
  7. Stability - Other than reported bugs, no apparent issues.

Outgoing Calls

  1. Can make - Yes
  2. Call quality - Poor. By default, calls pick up a lot of ambient noise and drown out the caller's voice. Here is a fix
  3. Calls recorded in call log - Yes
  4. Stability - No apparent issues

Messaging Functionality

Incoming SMS

  1. Can receive - Yes
  2. Kinetic alert (vibrate) - Yes
  3. Auditory Alert (sound) - Yes
  4. Sender identified if applicable - Yes. Caveat being that messages sent from Gmail to my SMS-by-email address display "kevin" as message rather than sender and text is actually lost.
  5. Is message readable - Yes
  6. OM today2 displays new messages - Yes
  7. Communication logged - Yes
  8. Stability - No apparent issues

Outgoing SMS

  1. Can send - Yes, but please see "Stability" in this section.
  2. Message readable - Yes
  3. Delivery notification works - No, and selecting this option prevents sending of SMS messages.
  4. Communication logged - Yes
  5. Stability - Serious issues. Biggest among them, messages segfaults if you have a contact in your address book. If you don't have a contact, the application starts. DElivery notification doesn't work, and selecting this option doesn't actually send the SMS message.

Person Information Management

Contacts

  1. Can add - Yes, but please see "Stability" in this section.
  2. Can create groups - Yes
  3. Can modify - Yes
  4. Stability - Serious issues. Attempting to add a new contact crashed when switching out of "Edit" mode and displayed the "Please wait" screen seen during boot. Also, messages will not start if there are listed contacts.

Calendar

  1. Can add events - Yes
  2. Can view events - Yes - Events appear in week and month view (and I am now thinking they MIGHT have appeared yesterday as well in both views)
  3. Can remove events - Yes
  4. Events appear on openmoko-today2 - Yes
  5. Events trigger kinetic alarm - No
  6. Events trigger auditory alarm - No

Media Player

Stability

Critically poor, media player will not load.

Music

  1. MP3 Playback - No
  2. MP3 Pause - No
  3. MP3 Next Track - No
  4. MP3 Previous Track - No
  5. Vorbis Playback - No.

Video

  1. Theora Playback - No
  2. Theora Pause - No

GPS

After installing gllin As before:

  1. Driver works
  2. gllin finds satellites
  3. gllin puts position and debug output to /tmp/nmeaNP

Bluetooth

  1. Can turn Bluetooth on - From system tray, yes. From neod panel, no.
  2. Can turn Bluetooth off - From system tray, yes. From neod panel, no.

Battery Life

No effective way to test this

Software Keyboard

  1. Keyboard type - Multi-tap Pictured Here
  2. Displays correctly - Yes
  3. Usability - Poor. Multi-tap input's lack of CTRL keys harms terminal use. Without predictive input, too many key presses per line make this less than enjoyable to use. Also, the move from a landscape input to a portrait signifigantly decreases usability of many apps (like Contacts and Calendar). See Switching Keyboards.
