Idea
"Community Based Traffic Information - CB Traffic Information" function will be building traffic information database from user's inputs. This function should be implemented into GPS Navigation.
When user notice some "on-road" events (accidents, bypasses, speed controls) he will inform OpenMoko (usinig voice recognition functons) about such event, and it will by automatically submitted onto the server using GPRS connection. Event is stored on the server with "rating=0"; In Romania pictures made with a phone and sent to a local television are used to inform drivers about recent driving conditions.
When user(one who submitted event and any another) is in the same place he is informed about an event and is prompted for confirmation ("Do you confirm: <Speed Control> YES/NO") if YES program submits "rating++" otherwise "rating--".
Local event database should be updated after time-out/"move-out".
User input is not necessarily required, only optional. It would be nice if the device could also measure average speeds in a certain area and upload it to a distributed, federated database. Using the GPS + the accelerometers this could be very precise even in areas where normal GPS positioning devices do not work, for example a tunnel or a heavy storm.
