Welcome to the portal for reviewing carriers for use with your Neo1973. Please, do your research before adding and removing from this page. Direct links to sources are a must! Also, focus on details for non-contract plans, data plans and other "pay as you go" offers. Americas
Canada
- Carriers/Fido offers a prepaid SIM that works with the Neo1973. Subscription sim also works with the FreeRunner
- Carriers/Rogers offers subscriptions that work with the Neo1973. Some Subscription sim's also work with FreeRunner
México
- Carriers/Telcel [1] offers a prepaid sim card (Amigo) that works with the Neo FreeRunner OM2007.04 and OM2008.12
- Carriers/Movistar [2] also offers a prepaid sim card (Plan Z-2) and it works with the Neo FreeRunner OM20081120 and OM2008.12
USA
Basically two service providers. T-Mobile and AT&T
- Carriers/ATT - There have been reports some SIMs provided by AT&T are not working with the Neo1973. Check the Carriers/ATT page for what works and what doesn't.
- Carriers/TMobile - The T-Mobile network and their SIM cards are usable with the Neo1973. (Sources?) Prepay SIM working 2007-08-01
- Carriers/iWireless - iWireless has towers in Iowa and roaming agreements with T-Mobile. See the Carriers/iWireless page for more info
Europe
Note: All European mobile service provider will work with the Neo due to EU-regulations. In order not to confuse anyone only list non-working European service providers or service provider that offer interesting data-plans or similar.
Austria
Belgium
- Proximus works perfect, including PIN authentication, reading stored messages and contacts etc.
Denmark
- CBB works. FreeRunner indicates correctly that it logs on to the sonofon network.
- TDC works. A SIM card from 2007 of the type 64K43 wasn't working, but a new one ordered august 2008 of type 64K23 worked fine. The new card was sent free of charge.
France
- Orange Ok for "Mobicarte" and also one old card
- SFR does not work with six months old (January 2008) 3G SIM card (not accepted by FR : Error 13 or 10) - OK with a newer one.

Germany
- Congstar A Brand new Sim Card (Sept 08) and an old one (May 07) are compatible to the Moko.
- Tchibo offers free Tchibo to Tchibo calling if you buy their prepaid SIM card till 9th of August.
- Older e-plus SIM cards may not work (not accepted by Neo1973, CME Error 13). Not working for me is a can one year old 3G (work in a UMTS phone with UMTS data and video) SIM card, 64K, 3V, #513, H244, 27-657-33xxxx-9 UJ. After requesting a new SIM card from e-plus via Hotline (free change), this now works.
- blau.de SIM cards work with the Neo1973/FreeRunner. blau.de has relatively cheap phone and data.
- simyo.de SIM cards work with the Neo1973/FreeRunner. simyo.de has relatively cheap phone and data.
- o2 Two (older) UMTS/GSM (combi) SIM cards didn't work in GTA02V5, after exchanging mine, it works (they don't exchange for GSM only cards anymore). For me (and a few more) it did NOT work. See http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/FreeRunner_unable_to_work_with_3G_SIM_cards
Greece
- Wind (old card from TIM 32K) works
Italy
- Vodafone SIM cards do not work (3 out of 3 gave +CME Error 10 or hang for AT+CFUN=1 and +CME Error 13 for AT+CIMI). (Confirmed, I couldn'e even unlock the PIN) See bug #666 for details.--Sixbladeknife 15:12, 11 October 2008 (UTC) 128K sim cards (8€ for substitution) work perfectly, 64K ones don't (mechanical reasons as stated at HW issues)
- Wind works and currently has a flatter GPRS rate.
- TIM I can report a success with a new 3g sim card (as of 24/7/2008) and a failure with a 6-months old one.
Norway
- Teletopia (note: local provider only for the city Oslo) used to provide free WAP and GPRS data. Their mobile division is now handled by CombiTel, and it seems that they continue this service (Norwegian language). Warning: I'm still trying to get hold of a prepaid card, so this information is not confirmed yet. Tingo 15:06, 15 August 2007 (CEST). Spain
- Orange 3 months old SIM works mutrox
- Simyo 4 months old 3G prepaid SIM works
- Vodafone 1 year old 3G 64KB SIM doesn't work. Neo asks for a pin, the pin is accepted but calls don't work. After GSM/Flashing it works perfectly
- Vodafone 8 months old 3G 64KB SIM works with 2007.2 & 2008.8 arturo
- Movistar 4/2008 128KB SIM prepaid doesn't work. Neo asks for a pin, the pin is accepted but calls don't work
- Eroski Movil (MVNO, uses Vodafone network) SIM from January '08 does not work garrop
- Ono io 6/2008 128KB SIM doesn't work. Neo asks for a pin, the pin is accepted but calls don't work
- Pepephone (Vodafone network) 10/2008 SIM from October'08 does not work. SIM doesn't register. Doesn't ask for pin.
Switzerland
- Sunrise New SIM card works fine (2008-07-30). A three years old card didn't work (cme errors 3 and 15). Entry added because Switzerland is not in the EU, so EU regulations probably don't apply.
- Swisscom SIM Card is about 8 month old. SMS and calls can be received and sent.
United Kingdom
- O2
- Old (circa 2001) PAYG SIM has always worked well.
- New (2008) PAYG SIM worked after upgrade to Moko10 GSM firmware.
- Free SIMs available here
- Three is not working.
- Might work after GSM firmware upgrade?
- Orange is working.
- Vodafone
- SIM which was obtained with a 3G datacard worked (tested after Moko10 GSM firmware upgrade).
- T-Mobile
Oceania
Australia
- Telstra - Brand new sim (09/10/2008) GSM and SMS working fine
- Optus - Old 2G sim working fine. GPRS working fine.
- Vodafone - GSM and SMS working fine with Vodafone SIM.
- Three - 3G USIM not working (not sure if there are any 2G SIMs available from Three. Answer: No, they have only ever had 3G).
- Virgin - 3G USIM works with GSM firmware updates beta10+ (possibly also without). GPRS works fine.
Asia
China
- CU-GSM - GSM and SMS working fine.
Israel
- Orange IL - GSM, SMS and GPRS work great.
