The core platform software is generally free to duplicate and distribute (including charging money for it) provided you follow the distributor's requirements in the free software licenses.

Neo1973 Phase 0 hardware was sent to select developers only. Phase 1 hardware is available direct from Openmoko, Inc. at http://direct.openmoko.com . Phase 1 hardware has a developer discount built in to the direct sales price. Phase 1 is not suitable for distributors.

As of August 2007, Openmoko plans to offer Phase 2 hardware to carriers and retailers,[1] but no official announcement has been made inviting Phase 2 distributors to sign up.

Hardware compatible with OpenMoko free phone software may eventually be offered by multiple manufacturers.
