I am a student at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly the University of Missouri - Rolla). I will be graduating with a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering, and open source software and hardware is a personal hobby/passion of mine. I think that there is a long way to go in making good scientific software, although there is a lot out there, but the open source community has some of the best stuff out there right now. I think that being a part of the OpenMoko community will be an exciting way to be involved with some very fundamental open source development in an area that has tons of untapped potential as I feel the mobile platform has yet to reach its potential.
