Opinion

My opinion as of 2008-12-20. Currently OM should only be used by hardcore-linux-users and OpenStreetMap-cartographers. The FR-hardware is good but the case is not.

Hardware problems (Neo Freerunner GTA02)

  • the display is to deep sunken into the case
  • the headset has no 3.5mm jack
  • charging is not possible if turned of or during boot
  • missing hole for the pen
  • missing keyboard
  • system needs reboot to change sd-card
  • no buttons / joystick on the front
  • AUX-button is not easy to use
  • the antenna-port can break easily
  • no menu-option to shutdown/suspend/reboot

Software problems (SHR)

  • still too slow
  • no finger-friendly keyboard
  • no gui to set time and date
  • contacts and dialer should be one application
  • the main apps should load in less than a second (preload)
