Neo1973 - likes and dislikes

The Neo1973 is going in the right direction for the type of mobile phone I want, into the future.

  • Likes:
    • 640x480 high-pixel-density touch-screen display - wow - just what I'm after
    • Open source operating system with package management
    • Built-in GPS - great
    • Ethernet over usb connection - handy
    • Linux and Windows Mobile capable - having choice is good
  • Dislikes:
    • micro-SD slot - in future please try to use SDHC (SD High Capacity) - micro-SD is fiddly, expensive, not capacious enough
    • no Wifi - this is necessary for a killer product - shame about the unopenness of the various wifi mobile chipsets
    • no keys - just touchscreen input is a bit of a pain, some keys (and maybe a slide-out full keyboard) would be good
    • appearance - not too keen on the style of the device ("pill-shaped") - Apple iPhone, Nokia N800 tablet, HTC TyTn, LG Prada have better "looks"
  • Suggestions for future models:
    • USB host port - handy to connect all types of peripherals to the phone (usb keyboard, card reader, mouse)
    • Camera - 2 or 3 megapixel would be good
Rotation for personal video calls/conferencing would make this killer also
    • An Accelerometer would be nice - provide user defined shake/tap controls
    • IR Port - turn the Neo1973 into a killer Universal Remote
Possibly use the two previous together in order to automatically switch to
Remote Control mode when you flip the phone upside down to point the IR port
at A/V Devices, along with a "Location Profile" based on GPS location preset
    • Vibration Module - for tactile feedback from key press of touch screen
    • GPRS/EDGE adapter - High speed internet option for when WiFi AP isn't available
    • OLED screen - for decreased battery drain and increased visibility in sunlight
Personal tools
