Fair enough. Checking the tower map on the article page, I would note that there are two Rogers towers close to you. One in Duncan and one just the other side of Maple mountain. Do you know anyone who uses Rogers in your area? The tower on Maple Mountain seems to (even with a high tower) be obscured for at least some of Maple Bay. (It may actually be intended for them rich folk on Saltspring) The tower in Duncan may also be obsucred... is Lakes Road on a ridge? Telus seems to have sited towers for better coverage in your area. Their tower is on your side of Maple Mountain. I am in Courtenay and am using Virgin mobile (being cheap) which uses the telus towers. The comox Valley is sort of bowl shaped and so by putting some towers on both sides both telus and rogers cover it pretty good. Rogers does have one extra tower in comox (at ST. Joes?) But I have not had trouble making calls nor heard of trouble from rogers users.

850 test question:

You don't mention if the stop is in the 850 mode or the 1900 mode. I live on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada. Using the very helpful tower map you point to, I worked my way from one end of the island to the other and found only 1 850 only tower. All the others were dual 850/1900. The position of the 850 only tower does not seem to match a telus tower (not gsm) and the area still seems to be covered by other near by towers anyway.

The real question in my mind is not "how far does 850 reach?"... but "does 850 increase my range over 1900 only?" And how much? Does 850 have better propgation than 1900? Maybe adding 850 for use in at least some parts of Canada is not really an issue. --Len 01:43, 9 January 2008 (CET)
