If I now buy a phone with development kit, I do it in order to participate in the development, so software problems don't frighten me that much. HOWEVER, if I spend 450$ + figuring out how the !()#@$% do I bring it into Israel, and then, when the software is ready, I find out that the hardware I have will not work, then that's something I will find harder to live with.
