Hi guys! This is the first of hopefully many Openmoko Framework Team Status updates...

[edit] DBus APIs

  • org.freesmartphone.GSM has received a major verhaul, I consider the

following APIs as being 0.9:

    • org.freesmartphone.GSM.Device,
    • org.freesmartphone.GSM.SIM,
    • org.freesmartphone.GSM.Network, and
    • org.freesmartphone.GSM.Call.

The others (.PDP, .CB, ...) are still in brainstorming mode.

  • preliminary versions of
    • org.freesmartphone.Device, and
    • org.freesmartphone.Usage

have been checked into the specs repository.

[edit] Implementations

  • The GSM 07.10 multiplexer (last release was 0.9.1) has been tested here since weeks and no major problems have been found. There are some bits and pieces I'd like to see (documented in TODO file) before an 1.0 can happen. Also, we would love to see much more testing with different modems.
  • I have written a new GSM daemon (called ophoned) that serves as a reference implementation of the freesmartphone.org GSM API. I consider this being the successor (but not a drop-in replacement) to gsmd.
  • I have written a new Device Daemon (called odeviced) that serves as a reference implementation of the freesmartphone.org Device API. I consider this being the successor (but not a drop-in replacement) to neod (and other related projects).
  • Jan Luebbe checked in an initial implementation of the Usage Daemon and Event Daemon.
  • Jan also added a preliminary top panel in our framework-testing UI application (which is called Zhone, by the way) that operates the Usage API.

[edit] What's next

  • LinuxTag starts in 5 days, I wanted to have a first framework-testing image ready by then, but it looks like we won't make it since a) I suffered one week from a cold and b) Jan Luebbe's GTA01Bv4 (prototype model assembled in .tw) has major problems entering multiplexer mode :(
  • On LinuxTag I will have a talk about Openmoko in general, emphasizing the new framework initiative. As it stands, I'm looking forward to release the testing image early June. People can still build stuff out of OE and play in the meantime.
  • Priorities for the next 3 weeks is to get all Phone Call use cases implemented and working rock-solid -- both API-wise and implementation-wise. In parallel, we will work on improving documenting already existing APIs.
