The Neo1973 is the first phone designed to run OpenMoko. It is manufactured by FIC who instigated the OpenMoko project.

If you just received a Neo1973 here are some suggestions for getting started.

Availability

Phase 0 (GTA01Bv3)

• Phase 0: 36 developers have received their devices. [1]

Phase 1 (GTA01Bv4)

• Official Developer Launch date is unknown. Join the announce mailing list to be notified when it's available.
  • 'The first couple of hundred GTA01Bv4 phones have been produced. QA is being done at the moment. Harald Welte at 2007-06-02

• • Phase 0 eligible developers have received their free P1 devices.

When the Neo1973 ships, it will be available for order directly from openmoko.com for US$350 plus shipping. Sales and orders will be worldwide. We are specifically targeting open source community developers.

• • There also will be shipping from EU.[2] [3]
  • At this time the phone will be a working touchscreen phone, but little more. It depends on you and the rest of the community to polish it into a fully usable device.
  • FIC can make as many phones as developers can buy. There might be 6 week delay at most if estimate is wrong. [4]
  • A few weeks after this, announcements will be made of the roadmap to future devices.

Phase 1+/1.5 (GTA02)

Adds to the Phase 1 phone:

• 2D/3D-Graphics-Accelerator
• 2 Accelerometers (model and number is uncertain)
• 1700mAh Battery
• 256MB flash
• Faster CPU - S3C2442/400
• WiFi: Atheros AR6K (see also [5])

• There will be no changes in the housing. [7]

There will be a discount for those that bought Phase 1 device. More info will be available before we start selling phase 1 phones. [8] [9]

Phase 2 (GTA02)

• Originally estimated September, 2007 Mass Market Sale. [10]
  • Probably same hardware as Phase 1+, software is updated.
  • Online sales will continue.
  • We may also be available in a retail stores and from selected carriers around the world. [11]
  • At this point, we hope your Mom and Dad will want to buy a Neo1973, too.

• The 2nd generation OpenMoko device will be introduced at this time. We have something special in the works, but again, you will help shape this device.
